Fashion Week Cocktail Recipe

Fashion Week Cocktail Recipe

London Fashion Week Cocktail

Fashion Week is just around the corner, and the best British designers are preparing to unveil their latest designs on the catwalk all over the capital.
To celebrate, The Grosvenor Hotel’s master mixologist Nathan Sorby has shared a special cocktail recipe, The LDN experiment, from The Réunion’s 2012 Fashion Week Menu. We also chatted with some of the industry’s most influential fashion and style bloggers who gave us their picks for the best of London Fashion Week…

How to make The LDN Experiment cocktail

You’ll Need:
  • 40ml Elements 8 St Lucian rum
  • 20ml fresh lime juice
  • 20ml yellow Chartreuse
  • 10ml sugar syrup
  • 10ml Wray & Nephew rum
  • 1/2 passion fruit skin for garnish
Making your cocktail
  • Chill the glasses.
  • Add all ingredients, except the Wray & Nephew rum, into a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass and add the passion fruit shell.
  • Using a wine glass, flame the Wray & Nephew rum, and pour into the passion fruit.

About Nathan

Before taking over as Bars Manager of the Réunion bar at the Grosvenor, Nathan started his career at a vodka bar in York before moving on to be Bars Manager at Jamie’s Italian, Wahaca and The London Cocktail Club. After that, Nathan started his own bar consultancy company where he helped re-launch popular bars, design menus and deliver custom training programmes. His drinks and cocktails have been published in books and magazines, and now he’s bringing that same creative flare to the Réunion bar where he places an emphasis on passion and creativity in every cocktail.

Top tips for London Fashion Week

Beginning on 14 September, the brightest stars in the design world will be in London presenting their S/S2013 collections up and down the catwalk. Headquartered at Somerset House, venues around central London will play host to fashion’s finest, including Vivienne Westwood, Henry Holland, Matthew Williamson and Christopher Kane.
If you didn’t manage to get your hands on tickets to your favourite shows, there’s still plenty to enjoy in London – the city’s trendiest bars, restaurants, and venues have been known to host stylish Fashion Week events, making it easy to connect with other fashion lovers and even rub elbows with celebrities.
In the run up to the impressive programme this year, we asked some of Britain’s most influential bloggers what they were most looking forward to for Fashion Week…
Q. What do you love about London Fashion Week?
Fashion queen Yvette from Yvette Christine said:
“London Fashion Week is definitely one of the most exciting places to be when you are in the fashion industry. The atmosphere is just amazing and everyone is always excited to meet new designers. As much as I love brands like Alexander McQueen and Temperley London, I am always eager to discover new designers that are given the chance to showcase their collections during London Fashion Week.”
Q. What are you most looking forward to for London Fashion Week?
Style guru Lela from fashion and lifestyle blog Lela London said:
“As always, Mulberry, Burberry, and Erdem are the designers that the world obsesses about in the run up to their collections. Personally, I feel like Mary Katrantzou and Antonio Berardi are going to deliver something super special.
“The ‘A’ team have piqued my interest, actually; Acne, Antoni & Alison, Ashish, etc. There is such a range of talent and aesthetics available compared to other fashion weeks, and I think London will take the cake in regards to embellishments and quirky detailing.”
Q. Which shows or designers are you most looking forward to seeing?
Lucy Wood, the brains behind www.Fashion-Editor.com told us:
“As per every season in London, I’m most looking forward to Mulberry and Ashish catwalk shows.
Mulberry always draws the coolest A-list front-row, and when you and when you can drag your eyes off of the FROW and new ‘It’ handbags the models are showcasing, the sea of ultra-wearable classic designs win you over every time. Plus, the set is always spectacular (last season Claridges ballroom was transformed into a forest/woodland setting, compete with yeti-type giant Mulberry monsters flanking either side of the runway!). Mulberry also gets best show invitation award – they’ve sent editor’s their own individual paint set complete with artists pad.
“I get excited about Ashish because I always know I’ll get a huge hit of sequins and colour. It’s always one of the last shows of London Fashion Week, and you feel a real buzz throughout the tent as everyone gets peaks from a mix of exhaustion and champagne!”
Q. What else do you love about Fashion Week?
“Party-wise, everyone’s looking forward to the Marios Schwab lingerie launch, in collaboration with Asos,” Lucy said. “His debut lingerie line will be modelled by the cast of Crazy Horse Paris – it’s sure to be a feast for the eyes! And JW Anderson’s throwing a bash at Madame Jojo’s in Soho, to mark his collaboration with Topshop. I used to party there years ago as a London fashion student, so it’ll be fun to go back and re-live some of those memories.”

5 of the Best Views in Paris

5 of the Best Views in Paris

Blog: Pommie Travels - 22 Δεκέμβριος 2011

By: victoria

One of the things I remember most about my trip to Paris was the incredible views. The city has so many world famous landmarks, but it wasn’t enough to just stand at the base, I had to climb on top of them. I remember so many exhausting climbs, but every time I arrived breathless at the top of a building, I was met with an even more breathtaking view.

If you have the energy, I’d highly recommend visiting the summit of these 5 iconic landmarks for the best views in Paris. And if you’re looking for a room with a view during your visit, why not check out these apartments in Paris to rent!

View from the Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous and romantic landmarks in the world, offering spectacular views of Paris both day and night. At 324 metre-tall, the Eiffel Tower held the title of tallest man-made structure in the world for 41 years before the Chrysler Building was constructed in New York in 1930. After you’ve had your  photo taken in front of it, make sure you purchase a ticket to go up in the elevator to one of the Tower’s three levels. The first and second levels have restaurants and souvenir shops, but the best view is from the third level right at the top. A ticket to the summit of the Eiffel tower costs €13.40 per adult and entrance times are allocated in 30 minute increments. The Eiffel Tower is open every day of the year, usually between 09:30am and 11pm, although it has extended opening hours from mid-June to late August.

View from the Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe, which stands in the centre of Place Charles de Gaulle at the meeting point of 12 avenues, provides great views over the Champs Elysees. At 50m high, it is a lot smaller than the Eiffel Tower, but offers a fabulous view of the surrounding avenues. To get to the top you must climb the stairs, and entry costs €8 per adult. The Arc de Triomphe was built to honour those who fought and died fo France, particularly during the Napoleanic Wars. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from WW1 and the Memorial Flame lies beneath it.

View from the Sacre Coeur

The Sacre Coeur Basilica is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and can be found perched at the top of butte Montmartre, the highest point of the city. If you’re feeling ambitious you can buy a ticket and climb the staircase to the top of the Dome, which is open from 9am to 7pm (6pm in winter). The Dome of the Sacre Coeur is the second highest viewpoint after the Eiffel Tower and offers tremendous views of Paris, but if you don’t feel like climbing to the top, you can still enjoy some great views if you sit on the steps in front.

View from Notre Dame

Notre Dame Cathedral is considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, and was made famous in the legendary novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame. You can visit the Notre Dame tower and explore the upper parts of the Western facade, which dates from the 13th century. There’s no elevator, so you’ll have to climb 387 steps to the top, but once you’re up there you can see the gargoyles and chimera up close, and of course marvel at the view.

View from Tour Montparnasse

Montparnasse Tower may not be a particularly attractive building by Paris standards, but the 210-metre office skyscraper has some staggering 360 degree views of the capital from the top floor. It was the tallest skyscraper in France until Tour First was built in 2011, but has caused some controversy because of its unsightly appearance, and the building of skyscrapers in the city centre was banned two years after it was constructed. In many photos of the Paris skyline, there’s one building missing- the Eiffel Tower- but you are treated some fantastic views of the Eiffel Tower from the top of this skyscraper.  It costs €7 per adult to visit the terrace, which is open between 9:3am and 11:30pm from 1st April through till 30th September. From 1st October to 31st March, it opens between 09:30am and 10:30pm Sunday to Thursday, and 09:30am to 11:00pm Friday to Saturday and holiday eves.
